Still, the Mountains Sing Freedom Songs.

The hope hummed by Valley,
Along the mountains spine,
Blossoms into a guerrilla song,
Sweet lullabies caress ears,
As the warriors she raised,
Fall into slumber, upon her riverbanks.

Lovers gaze at la Luna,
Under the cover of a misty night,
Tyrants had placed barriers,
Between their physical forms,
But where souls met,
Their fingers  begun turning the pages,
Of a shared history,
By the Neelum in Keran..

Her tears lay upon fertile soil,
Saffron fields blessed with life – west,
Of the sighs rising from within him,
Their souls tremble the same rhythm,
Resistance bridges the distance,
As another tale inscribed upon stone,
Plummets to her side, Reading,
“There is no division of the fingers of one hand.”

Her eyes gaze across waters, he reads..
“Blood has raced across these streams,
Like tears from Mothers eyes,
The screams of the fallen have echoed,
Within me – my lungs know how this tastes,
But through the screams of sisters raped,
Still, Our mountains sing freedom songs,
We will never know a bloodstained land so brave,
Still, these mountains sing back freedom songs .”

Hope smiles, under that moonlit sky,
Mother had placed the same eyes upon them,
His hands clutching at stones,
Her words steadying the storm,
As his quivering soul,
Lifted another verse from within…

“Trembling beneath gun barrels,
School children fell to bullets,
Our homes turned into battle grounds,
We needed to escape the blood-soaked,
Memory – of a struggle spanning centuries,
So, Our mountains sung back freedom songs,
They tried to silence the land of resistance,
Still, Our mountains sing freedom songs.”

Tears stream down her face – and his,
The tyrant placed his line between them,
But no distance is felt,
His hands are hers as he wipes away tears,
His gaze eases the waves within her,
Their fingers  begin to turn the pages,
Of a shared history,
By the Neelum in Keran,
Once again…
Against the backdrop of mountains,
Singing freedom songs, still.
